The Satellite Pesticide Analytical Laboratory-Baguio (SPAL-Baguio), one of the Pesticide Analytical Laboratories of the Bureau of Plant Industry, a government agency, is mandated by law to monitor the level of pesticide residues on agricultural crops to ensure safe and quality food supply for local and international market. This monitoring system helps facilitate compliance of the farmers and producers with the regulations on good agricultural practices particularly on the use of pesticides and ensures compliance with the maximum residue limit standards.
The laboratory also caters analytical services to clients as requirement for their product registration, pesticide trials, research and trading.

Job Title: Chemist II (SG 15) Item No. OSEC-DAB-CMT2-7

Job Responsibilities:

1. Analyzes agricultural crop samples for pesticide residue detection
2. Conducts verification, validation and improvement of analytical methods
3. Prepares report of analysis conducted
4. Assists in periodic maintenance and minor troubleshooting of GCs
5. Prepares accomplishment reports and other laboratory reports
6. Assists in the procurement of laboratory supplies and materials
7. Assists in the maintenance of cleanliness in the laboratory

Job Qualifications:

1. Must be a licensed chemist
2. At least one (1) year work experience in a testing laboratory
3. Hands-on experience in the operation of GCs, HPLC and GC-MS is an advantage
4. Can work independently with minimum supervision

Job Title: Chemist I (SG 11) Item No. OSEC-DAB-CMT1-1

Job Responsibilities:

1. Analyzes agricultural crop samples for pesticide residue detection
2. Conducts verification, validation and improvement of analytical methods
3. Prepares report of analysis conducted
4. Prepares pesticide standards and chemical reagents for use in the analysis
5. Assists in the preparation of accomplishment reports and documentation for ISO 17025 implementation
6. Interview farmers on pesticide usage and prepare survey reports
7. Assists in the maintenance of cleanliness in the laboratory

Job Qualifications:

1. Must be a licensed chemist
2. No experience required. However, having a work experience in a testing laboratory is a great advantage
3. Can work independently with minimum supervision
