All You Need To Know About Chemical Safety – The ICP Curriculum

In celebration of CHEMISTRY WEEK 2012, the Integrated Chemists of the Philippines is pleased to invite you an inaugural one and a half day seminar on All You Need To Know About Chemical Safety.

The ICP is pleased to launch an integrated curriculum on Chemical Safety. The ICP curriculum has the overall objective of assisting institutions draft their own Chemical Laboratory Safety Manual, which is a basic requirement to educate and inform those working in a chemical laboratory to prevent any untoward incident brought about by the mis-use or mishandling chemicals. As Chemists, we have a major role in ensuring chemical safety to prevent harm to people and damage to the environment.

The objective of this 1½-day seminar is to introduce the ICP curriculum for the preparation of the Chemical Laboratory Safety Manual. The ICP curriculum includes the following topics:

· Introduction to chemical safety
· Roles and responsibilities of key persons
· Classification of chemicals based on hazards
· Overview of Toxicology
· Hazard communication
· Managing chemical stocks
· Chemical storage guidelines
· Control measures
· Emergency preparedness and response (spills, fires, others)
· Personal protection
· Chemical security measures
· Chemical waste storage
· Philippine laws and regulations related to chemicals
· Preparing a Chemical Laboratory Safety Manual
