About the Symposium

To mark the importance of Chemistry in the life of the country, the third week of February every year is designated as Chemistry Week. This year, the ICP is pleased to celebrate Chemistry Week with a symposium that will cover updates on the Chemistry Profession Act.

Signed into law on 27 March 2015, the Chemistry Profession Act (RA 10657) has revitalized Chemistry in the Philippines. Although the coverage of RA 10657 is the professional practice of chemistry, this law has also strengthened other aspects of chemistry, including industry, research, and education. Fulfilling all provisions of RA 10657, however, is a huge task.

The Chemistry Week 2018 symposium will have two parts:
Part 1 will tackle updates on the compliance with the provisions of the Professional Chemistry Act, in particular concerning Hazard Pay and Ethics for the Chemistry Profession. Part 2 will cover the new ISO 17025, version of 2017 (includes Policy on Chemical Laboratories with respect to RA 10657).

The objectives of this symposium are as follows:

  1. To conduct a second consultation meeting with the chemistry community regarding the Hazard Pay;
  2. To present the new Ethics for the Chemistry Professional and conduct a panel discussion from actual experiences;
  3. To update the chemistry community regarding the revised ISO 17025, version of 2017.

Continuing Professional Development

Attendance to this symposium is equivalent to six (6) CPD credit units, granted by the CPD Council of Chemistry.
