Under the supervision of the Head of the Science laboratory, the main responsibility of the Laboratory Technician is to manage laboratories and ensure that the right equipment, tools, chemicals, and other materials are adequately stocked and kept in working condition.
Job Title: Laboratory Technician
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs administrative and clerical duties to include, but not limited to the following:
- Provides guidance to teaching faculties and students on how to use laboratory facilities in an appropriate and safe manner.
- Coordinates the activities and functions or operations of the Science Laboratory in the temporary absence of the Head.
- Takes charge of the preparation of the science laboratory and makes sure that equipment, tools, chemicals, and other materials are adequately stocked and kept in working condition.
- Sets-up the experiments and practical demonstrations which will enhance science lab user’s theoretical learning.
- Complies with health, safety, and security regulations
- Develops a sound understanding and knowledge of how to handle hazardous materials, chemicals, and equipment and how to implement necessary health and safety protocols.
- Cleans lab equipment, including recalibration of equipment
- Maintains equipment records and daily work logs.
- Stays current on technical and scientific advances in their field
- Keeps information confidential concerning Science Laboratory Department.
- Monitors the orderliness and cleanliness of the office.
- Performs other duties that may be assigned by the Department Head.
Job Qualifications:
- Preferably Female, College graduate, preferably Licensed Laboratory Technician or any related discipline.
- At least three (3) years working experience as a Laboratory Technician. Exposure in educational institution an advantage
- With pleasing personality, good computer and typing skills, Microsoft savvy (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Service oriented, Good Communication Skills
- Good moral character, trainable and trustworthy
- Self-motivated, needs minimal supervision
