Outstanding Chemist of 2021: Call for Nominations

Every year, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) honors the outstanding professional from each profession. We would like to invite active ICP members to nominate individuals for the honor of Outstanding Chemist of 2021.

The criteria for selection include the following:
1. Professional Competence and Integrity in the exercise of the Chemistry profession
2. Meaningful participation in professional activities through the professional organization
3. Significant contributions to the advancement of the Chemistry profession
4. Evidence of social responsibility through meaningful social activities

The Outstanding Chemist can come from government, industry or academe. The evidence for outstanding performance will depend on the sector where the nominee comes from. The nominees have to be evaluated and endorsed by ICP. The deadline for submission to ICP is on April 6 (Tuesday).

Report Individuals, Groups, Companies That Avoid Complying with the Chemistry Profession Act

The Professional Regulatory Board of Chemistry (BOC) has recently opened a means for the public to report individuals, groups, or companies that continuously violate and purposely avoid complying with the Chemistry Profession Act.

Examples of such violations include, but are not limited to, the following: absence of or expired Certificate of Authority to Operate a chemical laboratory, non-hiring of registered chemistry professionals, non-issuance of hazard pay to its registered chemistry professionals, and others.

The public is hereby advised to send a report (together with sufficient evidence) to the following email addresses: prbsec.chemistry1@gmail.com or prb_chemistry@prc.gov.ph. For any legal actions to proceed, it is crucial that the informant disclose his/her identity when submitting a report. Rest assured that the BOC will never reveal the informant’s identity.

Job Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities

-Ensures that lab cleanliness and safety standards are maintained.
-Conducts routine and non-routine analysis of in-process materials, raw materials, environmental samples, finished goods and retention samples.
-Completes documentation needed to support testing procedures including data capture forms, inspection and testing logbooks or inventory forms.
-Interprets test results, compare them to established specifications and control limits, and make recommendations on appropriateness of data of release
-Receives and inspects raw and packaging materials.
-Conducts Microbiological testing for in process and finished products
-Signs analysis of certification of food and pharmaceutical products before release for public use or consumption
-Resolve any arising quality related problems or product complaints.
-Ensure support in any incident/deviation investigations and in the identification and implementation of CAPA
-Help maintain all activities in an inspection ready status ahead of any internal or external audits to ensure successful inspections (e.g no critical observations related to quality.
-Support in executing continuous improvement actions and projects
-To ensure compliance to cGMP/GDP, FDA, Halal, HSE, and other regulatory requirements.
-Perform other related tasks assigned by immediate supervisor/management

Job Qualifications:

-Graduate of BS Chemistry or BS Pharmacy (PRC license required)
-1-3 years experience in Pharmaceutical/Food manufacturing
-Knowledge of principles and methods of Food Science, Physics, Chemistry or Biology; Production/Manufacturing processes, and quality assurance practices.
-Capable of performing physico-chemical analysis
-Use of methods such as titration, gravimetric analysis, electrochemical measurements, spectroscopy, and others.
-Willing to work in Las Piñas City

Monthly Salary Range: PHP 20,001 to PHP 25,000

ICP Panay Elects New Set of Chapter Officers

The Integrated Chemists of the Philippines – Panay Chapter, Inc. (ICP Panay) has elected their new set of officers last 30 January 2021 during their first virtual general assembly via Zoom.
