Job Title: Project Technical Assistant I

Job Responsibilities:

  • Implement the Quality Management System of ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001 and other accreditation, recognition and certification being maintained by the laboratory;
  • Abide by all relevant policies, procedures, programs and systems to ensure effective implementation;
  • Technically adept on specific test methods and requirements of Chemical Laboratory;
  • Prepare reagents to be used in the Chemical Laboratory;
  • Perform analysis with the supervision of the immediate supervisor;
  • Prepare and sign reports of analysis in the Chemical Laboratory;
  • Check and verify the data and computation of co-analyst;
  • Operate and maintain equipment being used in the Chemical Laboratory;
  • Receive samples and release reports of analysis to customers;
  • Wash glasswares and maintains cleanliness of the Chemical Laboratory; and
  • Prepare/update work instruction of Chemical Laboratory.

Job Qualifications:

  • Must be a Registered Chemist or Chemical Technician
  • Preferably trained to comply with the different regulatory and statutory requirements of accrediting/certifying bodies such as, but not limited to: PAB, DOH, FDA, DENR-EMB.

Job Title: Science Research Specialist I

Job Responsibilities:

Fermented Rice Bran for Functional Product Development and Health Improvement (25%)

  1. Produce Aspergillus oryzae and lactic acid bacteria as fermenting microorganism for rice bran
  2. Ferment bran samples obtained from different rice types for cell experiment and product development
  3. Maintain 3T3L1 cell culture for the evaluation of the antiadipogenic activity of FRB extracts/fractions
  4. Evaluate the anti-obesity property of FRB fractions in vitro
  5. Assist in the development and evaluation of food product enriched with FRB
  6. Encode, tabulate, and analyze data collected from various experiments
  7. Prepare and submit annual study report

Development of NIRS Calibration Models for Rice Physicochemical Properties Evaluation (20%)

  1. Collect NIR spectra of 200 milled rice and flour samples
  2. Analyze crude protein, moisture, and amylose content of 200 rice samples
  3. Develop calibration models for rice physicochemical properties (milled rice and flour dataset)
  4. Perform internal and external validation tests for the developed calibration model to determine their prediction accuracies
  5. Prepare and submit annual study report

Screening of CMS Lines and Hybrids for Grain Quality (25%)

  1. Determine the physicochemical properties of 50 submitted 2022 DS hybrid rice samples
  2. Consolidate data of analyses conducted

Grain Quality Evaluation of NCT Rice Lines and Check Varieties and Other Samples (20%)

  1. Determine the physicochemical and phytochemical properties of 2022 DS rice samples
  2. Encode, process, and submit data collected to study leader

Integrated Management System and Laboratory Management
(5%)

  1. Comply with all the IMS policies and health and safety guidelines of the division
  2. Act as a custodian in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of Analytical Laboratory and Low Protein Processing Plant
  3. Perform periodic validation of analytical balances and enclosures based on calibration plan and standards procedure
  4. Assist in the receipt and inspection of newly delivered chemicals; ensure proper storage of chemicals according to their classification and compatibility; perform regular inventory of chemicals to avoid delay of analyses
  5. Prepare and submit quarterly records of chemicals wastes to the laboratory manager

Others (5%)

  1. Prepare and submit accomplishment reports and DTR on/before the deadline
  2. Actively participate in meetings, workshop, and other division/Institute activities as required
  3. Perform other tasks assigned by supervisors from time to time
  4. Assist in the maintenance of RCFSD adopted area
  5. Present at least one technical paper (oral and/or poster presentation) in local or national scientific conference
  6. Attend training on validation of chemical methods of analysis
